Water Damage

Why can’t I just use a wet vac & some fans to dry my house?

Why Using Wet Vacs and Fans For A Few Days Doesn’t Work…

The real issue here is simple: hidden water.

Wet vacs will only draw out surface water from your floors and walls. There is always more water trapped and hidden behind walls and underneath floors that you can’t see….

NextGen’s drying systems assure the complete drying of your structure. Our firm grasp of the science of “Psychrometry” allows us to utilize the right equipment (see below), effectively and efficiently, to remove the moisture from all affected building materials and ensure they reach their pre-loss moisture content.

NextGen is frequently called in when homeowners thought their home was dry, but begin to see or smell evidence of mold growth. What that means is that the materials that can seem to APPEAR to be dry, but aren’t. When we thoroughly survey (or “moisture map”) the structure, we almost always find the majority of the structure is not only wet, but wet enough to support mold growth for quite some time.

(Please see more information on this in our Moisture Intrusion Detection section.)

Can You Save My Carpet???

From our experience, most people are mainly concerned with their wet carpet and padding. And it’s easy to understand why – you can see it, step in the puddles, and hear the sloshing sounds! If we are able to employ our structural drying techniques, you may not have to replace your favorite carpet.

There are 2 types of moisture we have to remove: “bound” and “unbound”. The water in carpet and padding is “unbound” and easy to extract. However, the non-visible building materials that comprise the structure of the house (studs, drywall, baseboards, insulation, etc.) actually hold the majority of the very deep and most difficult to remove water known as Highly Bound Moisture. “Bound water” is the water that that deeply penetrated water in the walls and building materials you can’t see. It is also the water that creates the conditions for mold to grow on and behind your walls and floors.

Mold Issues

Why can’t I just use a wet vac & some fans to dry my house?

Does bleach, ozone, or paint work for mold removal or mold abatement?

The reason why things like bleach, ozone & paint don’t eliminate mold is because it doesn’t kill the “roots” of the mold. Therefore, it can continue to flourish & grow just like the grass in your lawn, even though you mow it every 5 days. It just keeps coming back for more!

Many companies, contractors and insurers may attempt to use substances such as household bleach. It does seem like an easy fix. Not only are many of these products toxic, but they are ineffective at killing the mold on the type of materials found in your house. They also cannot penetrate building materials. And worse, they leave behind the mycotoxin secretion that produces the toxigenic and allergenic effects which is the cause of harmful symptoms.

Additionally, painting exterior stud cavities to encapsulate the mold can change the way your structure is designed to breath and can create WORSE issues for you in the future.

If you’ve tried any of these things to no avail, call NextGen and we’d be happy to discuss how to safely and PERMANENTLY remove it for you.
